Virginie de Barnier reelected as Director of IAE Aix-Marseille, Aix-Marseille University’s Business School

The Board of IAE Aix-Marseille elected Virginie De Barnier as director of the institution for the coming 2018-23 mandate with 75% of votes on 17 May 2018. This is Ms De Barnier’s second mandate as head of IAE, her first mandate started in 2013.

The Board has recognised the School’s numerous achievements during Ms De Barnier’s initial mandate. IAE gained places in the Financial Times league table for French B-Schools, moving from 16th to 11th rank. Applications to the School increased by 66% and post-graduate salary estimates rose by 15% (from €47,000 in 2013 up to €54,000 in 2017). The School registered additional 150 apprenticeship contracts and was successfully re-accredited by EQUIS and Amba in 2014 and 2015.

During her first mandate, Virginie De Barnier focused on establishing strong links with Aix-Marseille University (AMU: 78,000 students, including 10,000 international students). She developed common international partnerships and double degrees, and encouraged students and graduates from various AMU units apply to IAE.

In the forthcoming mandate, IAE will implement several projects and will especially boost its lifelong training offer. The goal is to meet the needs of the corporate world: companies want their executives to update their management skills without opening long breaks in their professional careers. Modular tuition programmes are the key to success here.

The development of research is due to be another strategic axis. IAE’s research has already received wide recognition from the community for the quality and volume of its publications in Management Science. It is committed to pursuing innovative research ventures with highly-regarded foreign universities and partners.

In a more general way, existing ties with AMU will be further strengthened through new pedagogical collaborations and transdisciplinary research projects.

After her re-election, Virginie de Barnier declared: "Gaining re-election is most gratifying and I am very happy about it. I wish to express my warmest thanks to the teams who work with me for IAE, the Business School of France’s premier university. My grateful thanks also go to our corporate partners who strongly support our School’s development."
