Our Erasmus exchange students

13/04/2022

An international exposure is a necessity for future managers who will often have to evolve in internationalized companies and adapt to complex situations. The IAE Aix-Marseille promotes the mobility of its students both during internships and study periods (exchange program) in partner universities abroad.

Discover the testimony of Margaux Cauchon, MSc 1 student, on her Erasmus exchange semester in Bratislava.

Why did you choose this destination?

I went to Bratislava in Slovakia for 6 months as an Erasmus student. I chose this Eastern country for the beauty of its landscapes, its rich heritage, its culture, to be able to travel in the surrounding countries and maybe also for the beer at 2 euros (it's not a legend, it's really cheaper than water in Slovak restaurants...).

How did your integration go?

The first week is entirely dedicated to integration. The ESN (the Erasmus Student Network) organizes activities throughout the week: hiking, sightseeing, festive events or sports. So it is very easy to get to know other Erasmus students. Moreover, Bratislava has the advantage of being on a human scale, which makes it easy to meet and make friends. Being in a student residence also allowed me to meet many people (and to discover new culinary flavours...).

How did your semester unfold?

The semester runs from the beginning of September to mid-December. I had 6 classes in total. I was able to condense these classes to the beginning of the week, which allowed me to be on the weekend by Thursday evening. My semester was entirely distance learning but that didn't stop me from meeting many people and speaking English.

Any memories?

I had the opportunity to travel to Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. I will keep in memory the singularity of each of the landscapes, the numerous tourist visits and the numerous meetings. I will also remember the amazed look of the Italians living in my residence in Palermo and their smile when they saw snow for the first time in their lives.

What did it bring to you?

This Erasmus in Slovakia allowed me to improve my English level. It also allowed me to grow through the trips I was able to make. Finally, it brought me friendships that I hope will last.
