CERGAM Research Centre

A Word from the former Director

The mission of the CERGAM is to favor research in the Management Sciences at Aix-Marseille Université. This mission includes providing its members (permanent and associate researchers) with scientific and material support to help them develop quality research. This mission also provides the same support to students who wish to do a doctoral dissertation within the framework of the CERGAM.

The CERGAM is structured around three axes that favour a transversal vision of the Management Sciences. Nevertheless, as presented below, these three axes cover all of the majors presented in the Management Sciences:

Strategy and governance of public and private organizations (associated majors: public management, strategy and business policy, management control, finance, leadership and human resources management),

Brand management: services and products (associated majors: marketing, services management and communication),

Entrepreneurship, information and internationalization (associated majors: information systems, organizational behavior and international business,).

The CERGAM is recognized as a center of excellence for research in the Management Sciences both in France and abroad. The results of recent CERGAM audits (The HCERES audit in 2010: Grade A; the EQUIS audit of the IAE Aix-en-Provence in 2012: reaccreditation) attest to its French and international recognition.

I hope to count you among our researchers and together, contribute to the development of the CERGAM.

Pierre-Xavier Meschi, Director of the CERGAM

CERGAM Presentation and History

For three decades, the CEROG (Centre d’Etudes et de Recherche sur les Organisations et la Gestion or Research Centre on Organisations and Management) has systematically been, with Paris Dauphine Université, among the first three centres for the production of management doctoral dissertations in France (first in 2013; source: FNEGE). Historically, the CEROG is one of the oldest French research centres in management. Created in 1974, it was inspired by the IAE Aix-en-Provence beginning in the early 1970s to develop applied research in this young discipline.

Today, the CEROG is now the CERGAM following the merger with two other research centers: The GREFI research center (Faculté d’Economie et de Gestion) and the CESMAP research center (Institut de Management Public et de Gouvernance Territoriale). The CERGAM is maintaining the vocation of developing and stimulating research in the domains of finance, human resources management, marketing, strategy, international business, information systems and public management. The creation of the CERGAM in 2008 reflected the intent to integrate and consolidate the different research teams in management across the faculties, institutes and schools of Aix-Marseille Université.

Today, the CERGAM, EA (Equipe d’Accueil) 4225, is attached to the Doctoral School of Economics and Management of the Aix-Marseille Université (ED372). It is among the five biggest research centers in France with 56 Aix-Marseille Université’s professors and 80 Doctoral students.
